Enteroctopus Choker: A Glamorous and Sophisticated Wearable Art

Experience the Beauty of Deep Sea Creatures with Rachel Gemma Tan's Exquisite Design

Inspired by the Giant Pacific Octopus and part of the Caerula Collection, the Enteroctopus Choker is a stunning piece of jewellery that captures the essence of the deep sea. Designed by Rachel Gemma Tan, this choker combines organic inspiration with balance and precision, resulting in a wearable art that is both glamorous and sophisticated.

When Rachel Gemma Tan visited Ripley's Aquarium of Canada, she was captivated by the wondrous and beautiful deep sea creatures she encountered. Inspired by their natural movements and distinct existence, she set out to create a collection that would provide a window into the depths beyond our human reach. The Caerula Collection, of which the Enteroctopus Choker is a part, transcends cultures, space, and time, incorporating influences from African textile patterns, Moroccan art, French renaissance ceiling paintings, Italian renaissance faience plates, Gothic wood inlays, and Byzantine mosaic patterns. Through her designs, Tan aims to encapsulate the beauty of nature and promote its protection.

What sets the Enteroctopus Choker apart is its extraordinary architecture and unique properties. The choker features black onyx stones that are bezel set and line the neckline, adding a touch of glamour and sophistication. The design seamlessly combines organic inspiration with balance and precision, resulting in a structural integrity that is maintained while incorporating flexibility, wearability, and durability. The choker is crafted in silver and 18K yellow gold, with meticulous attention to detail.

The realization of the Enteroctopus Choker involved a combination of 2D and 3D design processes. The elements of the design were first drawn on paper, and a paper prototype was created to ensure the perfect fit around the neck. Gemstones were carefully chosen based on color, opacity, and cut. A 3D design was then created, taking into account the depth of the stones and their distance from the neck. The continuous choker design was broken into five separate movable parts, allowing for adjustability and comfort. An adjustable clasp was designed to securely fasten the sculptural piece against the neck.

The Enteroctopus Choker measures 32.5cm long, 2.5cm wide, and 3mm thick, with an adjustable clasp at the back. Its elegant and timeless design makes it a perfect accessory for any occasion, adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

Recently featured in the Tatler UK 2019 Spring Collection, the Enteroctopus Choker has received accolades for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Enteroctopus Choker stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its ability to provide fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.

Experience the glamour and sophistication of the Enteroctopus Choker, a wearable art that captures the beauty of deep sea creatures. With its exquisite design and meticulous craftsmanship, this choker is a testament to Rachel Gemma Tan's creativity and passion for art, architecture, design, and innovation.
